What Is a Certified Pre-Owned Vehicle?

2017 Mitsubishi LancerThere are lots of choices to make when it comes to buying a new car. One of the biggest choices to make it whether to buy a new or used car. But did you know you can compromise? A Certified Pre-Owned vehicle is the best of both worlds.

So first of all, you’ll want to know what “Certified Pre-Owned”, or “CPO”, means. The “pre-owned” part means that the car has been previously owned by somebody else. However, the “certified” part is what makes it different from a used car. Before being considered a Mitsubishi CPO car, every potential vehicle must first go through a strict evaluation.

First, a car must be less than five years old and have less than 60,000 miles on it. After that, it has to go through a 123-point inspection to meet the tough requirements of the CPO program.

Something you’ll get with a CPO car that you won’t get with a used car is a warranty. Mitsubishi’s CPO program comes with New Vehicle Limited Warranty and Powertrain Limited Warranty. Plus, you’ll know your car’s history when you buy it thanks to a free vehicle history report.

Certified Pre-Owned cars give you like-new cars all at an affordable price. Come down to Larry Jay Mitsubishi today to check out our CPO collection.

What is Camber?

camber

As a car owner, you’ve undoubtedly heard about wheel alignment. You’ve probably agreed to have your wheels aligned upon a mechanic’s recommendation, if nothing else. Wheel alignment is an important part of maintenance. It helps your tires to last longer by ensuring that they get even wear on their tread. This helps them grip the road better, and in turn keeps you and your passengers safe.

Some people, however, like to tweak their alignment for performance purposes. When this is the case, they start to get into the details about alignment, which includes three elements: camber, caster and toe. Here we’ll look at camber, what it is and how that affects performance.

Camber refers to the angle of a car’s wheel in relation to the surface of the road. It’s a measurement in degrees that explains whether the wheel is tilted inwards towards the fender wells, our outward away from them, and by how much. A 0º camber would mean that the tire is perfectly perpendicular to the ground. A negative camber means that the top of the tire tilts in, where a positive camber means that it tilts out.

Negative cambers are popular among drivers who like a thrilling performance. With negative camber, the tires grip the road better during tight corners. However, it doesn’t offer a strong grip on normal roads. For most people, a neutral camber is the best and safest bet for everyday driving.

Three Ways to Know that It’s Time to Buy a New Car

It’s Time to Buy a New Car

There are plenty of car commercials, glossy magazine ads and well-lit dealerships that are always around. If you were to get a new car, you’d know where to look. But how can you tell that it’s time to buy a new car? Here are three signs that may mean you should start shopping.

Frequent Repairs

Some maintenance is to be expected in a car that’s got a healthy amount of miles on it. Parts wear down and need replaced and systems need tweaked. But if you’re having trouble keeping your car running without shelling out some serious cash every couple of months, it may be time to upgrade.

Repairs Cost More Than the Car

One way you can weigh the benefits of getting the repair versus starting fresh is by learning what your car is worth. If its current market value is close to what it will cost for a new transmission, then you may as well put that money towards a new car.

Extra Unnecessary Costs

As a car becomes more and more outdated, it can cost you a lot more than it would to invest in a new vehicle. Not only do older cars have outdated fuel systems that will cost you more in gas but older vehicles will cost you more from insurance, too. Plus, aged cars are likely lacking the “drive clean” technologies that would let them pass emission tests by today’s standards. Buying a new car will be a safer choice not only for you and your family, but for the environment as well.

If you’re having these problems and think it’s time for you to begin car shopping, contact Larry Jay Mitsubishi!

Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV Finally Coming to the US

A Mitsubishi Outlander out on a sunny day

The Outlander PHEV is coming to America!

For a few years now, Mitsubishi has been marketing a plug-in hybrid EV version of its popular Outlander family in other countries, such as the United Kingdom, but the variant never made its debut on North American soil. However, following the introduction of the Outlander’s next generation sometime after 2017, the Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV will finally be available in the US.

The decision accompanies Mitsubishi Motors’ announcement that the company has reevaluated its plans and has chosen to more aggressively target the SUV segment. The current generation of the Outlander PHEV could arrive in the US as early as next May. In addition, the automaker expects to have released three new SUVs to the lineup by 2020, including a new unnamed crossover, the next installment of the Outlander, and a new Outlander Sport. Mitsubishi says all three vehicles will offer optional hybrid powertrains, in addition to the traditional gas setup.

The Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV has been around for four years now, but the company is just now bringing the plug-in hybrid model to the American market. However, the decision makes sense now that Mitsubishi Motors North America, Inc. has turned their sights on the SUV market in an attempt to focus on their strengths.

Can’t wait to get your hands on a new Outlander? You can at least partially quench your thirst for the PHEV by test driving a 2015 Outlander at Larry Jay Mitsubishi today!

Mitsubishi November Sales Demonstrate Company Success

Mitsubishi 2016 model lineup

Mitsubishi was looking fierce in November!

Mitsubishi November sales numbers have been released to the public, and the company continues to enjoy one of its best years yet due to the continued success of the Mitsubishi Outlander and the SUV’s variants. So far in 2015 Mitsubishi Motors has sold over 87,000 units year-to-date, a stark contrast to 2014’s numbers of just over 71,000 within the same time period. That’s a 23 percent increase!

In just November alone, Mitsubishi Motors North America, Inc. has sold 6,722 products – up 3.6 percent from November 2014’s sales numbers. The Outlander shows the biggest leap in sales from the previous year, with an increase of 69.3 percent, or sales of 1,717 units. The Outlander Sport sold even more units in November; the popular SUV saw 2,955 units sold last month.

Mitsubishi’s continued success with their SUVs has caused the company to turn its attention to the SUV segment. Over the next five years, Mitsubishi plans to introduce three new SUVs to the US lineup. Mitsubishi November sales certainly back up this decision, as the company continues to find great success.

The Lancer Evo’s story in the US is a generations-long saga of engineering triumph and stylistic innovations, but it has reached its final chapter.

Mitsubishi has recently announced the Lancer Evolution Final Edition in America, a vehicle that gives a proud goodbye to an automotive legend.

The Lancer Evolution Final Edition in America will feature 303 horsepower (an increase of 12 horsepower from the last model) and 305 lbs of torque. Our favorite modification for the Final Edition is probably the new Bilstein shocks wrapped with all-around Eibach springs and two-piece Brembo front-axle calipers – talk about a smooth ride.

The Final Edition will retain that classic Lancer look, with the exaggerated spoiler and athletic posture. It will feature dark-chrome Enkei wheels to match the dark-chrome grille setting and black aluminum roof. You can get the last Evo in four colors: Pearl White, Rally Red, Mercury Greay, or Octane Blue.

How Alternators Work

alternator

The alternator is one of the most important parts of your car, since it’s the part that generates electricity to keep your battery charged as you drive. If you’ve ever wondered how they do this, we here at Larry Jay Mitsubishi have created a brief guide on how alternators work.

Alternators contain several parts, including a rotor, a stator, a rectifier assembly, and a set of brushes that maintain contact with the rotor, all of which are housed inside an aluminum casing. There’s also a pulley outside the casing.

The word alternator comes from the phrase alternating current. The rotor and stator work together to produce electromagnetic power, which is then sent to the battery. The engine rotates the alternator pulley, which causes the rotor to spin past wire coils that are part of the stator. This produces alternating currents in the rotor and stator. The electricity from this is funneled through stator leads to the rectifier diodes, which send the current in the proper direction.

Alternators also require a voltage regulator that determines the amount of voltage that goes into the engine, since too much can damage it. This isn’t everything there is to know about the alternator, so read up if you’re interested!
