The 2016 Mitsubishi Outlander works well in any situation. That’s very much part of this SUV’s appeal–versatility. But here are three reasons that the Outlander is the perfect road trip vehicle!
Crank the Jams
Great soundtracks make great road trips. The 2016 Mitsubishi Outlander has the options you need to make that happen. First, there’s the available 6.1-inch Touch Panel Display Audio and with it, the available satellite radio and 130 channels of music. Of course, you need good speakers as well. That’s where the available Rockford Fosgate Premium Audio comes into play. Nine speakers, including a 10-inch subwoofer, are powered by 710 watts.
If fences make great neighbors, it’s space that makes good road trip companions. Not only does the 2016 Mitsubishi Outlander seat seven, there’s ample space for each passenger to feel comfortable. And there’s plenty of cargo space too!
Fun to Drive
For a lot of people, their vehicle is how they take a road trip. When you’ve got the 2016 Mitsubishi Outlander, it’s why you take a road trip. The Outlander boasts great performance features like Super All-Wheel Control, which includes the Active Front Differential, Active Stability Control, and Active Stability Control. Add the Driver Selectable driving modes and you’ve got a consistently rewarding drive!
For a few years now, Mitsubishi has been marketing a plug-in hybrid EV version of its popular Outlander family in other countries, such as the United Kingdom, but the variant never made its debut on North American soil. However, following the introduction of the Outlander’s next generation sometime after 2017, the Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV will finally be available in the US.
The decision accompanies Mitsubishi Motors’ announcement that the company has reevaluated its plans and has chosen to more aggressively target the SUV segment. The current generation of the Outlander PHEV could arrive in the US as early as next May. In addition, the automaker expects to have released three new SUVs to the lineup by 2020, including a new unnamed crossover, the next installment of the Outlander, and a new Outlander Sport. Mitsubishi says all three vehicles will offer optional hybrid powertrains, in addition to the traditional gas setup.
The Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV has been around for four years now, but the company is just now bringing the plug-in hybrid model to the American market. However, the decision makes sense now that Mitsubishi Motors North America, Inc. has turned their sights on the SUV market in an attempt to focus on their strengths.

Mitsubishi November sales numbers have been released to the public, and the company continues to enjoy one of its best years yet due to the continued success of the Mitsubishi Outlander and the SUV’s variants. So far in 2015 Mitsubishi Motors has sold over 87,000 units year-to-date, a stark contrast to 2014’s numbers of just over 71,000 within the same time period. That’s a 23 percent increase!
In just November alone, Mitsubishi Motors North America, Inc. has sold 6,722 products – up 3.6 percent from November 2014’s sales numbers. The Outlander shows the biggest leap in sales from the previous year, with an increase of 69.3 percent, or sales of 1,717 units. The Outlander Sport sold even more units in November; the popular SUV saw 2,955 units sold last month.
Mitsubishi’s continued success with their SUVs has caused the company to turn its attention to the SUV segment. Over the next five years, Mitsubishi plans to introduce three new SUVs to the US lineup. Mitsubishi November sales certainly back up this decision, as the company continues to find great success.

The crossover segment is not only popular—it’s crowded. There’s no mystery as to why the crossover has become the most popular segment. They work when a minivan or full-size SUV would be too bulky or inefficient and when a car would be too small. Because the crossover segment is so popular, it comes as no surprise that every year, Cars.com announces its Most Affordable Three-Row Crossover list, naming the best of the best in the segment. This year, the 2016 Mitsubishi Outlander has come out on top.
The list is determined based on the characteristics consumers look for in a three-row crossover. These characteristics include an automatic transmission, power driver’s seat, rearview camera, USB port, and Bluetooth connectivity. Then, the crossover’s affordability is calculated by an equation involving the five-year fuel cost, price, and residual value.
Cars.com found that the 2016 Mitsubishi Outlander met all of the requirements to be the year’s Most Affordable Three-Row Crossover. The estimated five-year fuel cost for the Outlander was $2,000 less than the next competitor on the list. Though its residual was not as strong as some, the fuel cost and a low starting price helped the Outlander to win.
The 2016 Outlander features include the best in safety, comfort, and technology among other things. Whether you’re navigating tight city streets or cruising on the open road, the Outlander is right for you.
According to Mitsubishi, the 2016 model features a RISE body construction to greatly enhance passenger protection. By absorbing energy in the event of a collision, everyone is as safe as possible. Plus, active stability control monitors grip and tire spin to ensure that you always have traction.
In addition to seven-passenger seating, the Outlander comes with added cabin quietness, automatic climate control, and optional heated windshield de-icing among other things. You won’t want to leave the driver’s seat.
Finally, this most is one of the most technologically advanced models Mitsubishi has ever made. With a 6.1-inch touch panel display, rearview camera, selectable eco-mode, and optional Rockford Fosgate Premium Audio, you’ll have everything you need. Don’t settle for anything less than the new 2016 Outlander.
The refreshed 2016 model of the Mitsubishi Outlander could not be debuting at a more perfect time. Mitsubishi just recently announced that they will stop producing sedans and focus solely on SUVs for the foreseeable future. It helps, therefore, that the new Outlander is an outstanding SUV.
The excellence starts on the outside, too, with an all-new design that takes many cues from the Outlander PHEV Concept-S that debuted back at the 2014 Paris Motor Show. The front grille is all-new, with an X-shaped grille and a glossy black panel for visual contrast. We saw an unofficial teaser image of the Outlander online, but the new Outlander is on display at the New York Auto Show from April 2nd onward.
The new Outlander design doesn’t just share the PHEV Concept’s skin, though. In an effort to give customers more fuel-efficiency—and more options overall—the Outlander will come as a plug-in hybrid model as well here in the States for the first time. To learn more about the Outlander, you can either trek up to New York or simply visit us here at Larry Jay Mitsubishi!
Auto shows are the perfect platform for carmakers to present new and improved model ideas. Because of this, it comes as no surprise that Mitsubishi is using the New York International Auto Show as the new stage to present the brand-new 2016 Outlander. To increase interest in the brand-new crossover’s debut, which is set for the show on April 2, Mitsubishi has released 2016 Mitsubishi Outlander teaser images.
The teaser images highlight a variety of changes for the popular crossover SUV. These changes include a more modern design for the front fascia, increasing the Outlander’s sophisticated appeal. It also looks as if the 2016 Outlander will feature a brand-new rear end, reflecting the design of the Outlander PHEV Concept-S, which debuted last year at the 2014 Paris Motor Show.
Experts believe that this refreshed Outlander design will debut hand-in-hand with the U.S. debut of the plug-in hybrid Outlander. For more information on these two terrific models, be sure to check back to Larry Jay Mitsubishi today!

The new 2016 Mitsubishi i-MiEV sees the addition of some exciting new options. There’s a navigational package that includes a seven-inch touch screen displaying real-time traffic data and 3D mapping. A rear-view camera option makes a nice safety touch. You’ll also be able to pick up the i-MiEV with optional Bluetooth hands-free phone system and USB port.
