Snacks for Road Trips: the Dos and Don’ts of Eating on the Road

Snacking On the Road

Any road trip enthusiast will tell you that careful planning can make or break a trip—including the proper snacks. Although it might sound like a silly concept, it is true that many drivers eat while they’re on the road. That’s why we’ve put together a post on snacks for road trips to give you an idea of the dos and don’ts of eating on the road.

According to How Stuff Works, the ideal foods for the roads make you feel full and don’t distract you from driving. They also give you energy and keep you alert. First, bring a mini cooler and keep it within reach. If you have passengers, put them in charge of snack distribution. The best snacks tend to be nuts, granola bars, and bananas. What do they have in common? They aren’t messy and they can be eaten with one hand.

What should you avoid? Obviously, you don’t want to bring messy foods that might distract from the road. Chips make your hands greasy, sandwich and hot dog condiments tend to get everywhere, and foods with pits or that have a lot of fluid can also be a problem, including cherries or peaches.

Other favorites include: fruit leather, jerky, celery and carrot sticks, and good old-fashioned trail mix. For drinks, go light—you don’t want to pull over every five seconds. Generally, you can’t go wrong with water. Avoid sugary drinks that may give you a rush and then a sugar crash. Though there are mixed feelings on caffeine, it is a stimulant, making coffee, tea, and energy drinks a possibility for late nights.

The 2016 Mitsubishi Outlander is the Perfect Road Trip Vehicle

2016 Mitsubishi Outlander

The 2016 Mitsubishi Outlander works well in any situation. That’s very much part of this SUV’s appeal–versatility. But here are three reasons that the Outlander is the perfect road trip vehicle!

Crank the Jams

Great soundtracks make great road trips. The 2016 Mitsubishi Outlander has the options you need to make that happen. First, there’s the available 6.1-inch Touch Panel Display Audio and with it, the available satellite radio and 130 channels of music. Of course, you need good speakers as well. That’s where the available Rockford Fosgate Premium Audio comes into play. Nine speakers, including a 10-inch subwoofer, are powered by 710 watts.

Space

If fences make great neighbors, it’s space that makes good road trip companions. Not only does the 2016 Mitsubishi Outlander seat seven, there’s ample space for each passenger to feel comfortable. And there’s plenty of cargo space too!

Fun to Drive

For a lot of people, their vehicle is how they take a road trip. When you’ve got the 2016 Mitsubishi Outlander, it’s why you take a road trip. The Outlander boasts great performance features like Super All-Wheel Control, which includes the Active Front Differential, Active Stability Control, and Active Stability Control. Add the Driver Selectable driving modes and you’ve got a consistently rewarding drive!

Drive-in Theater Tips: Getting the Most out of Your Drive-in Experience

With warmer weather on the way, that means we’ll be seeing drive-in theaters open across the region. Drive-ins are a great way to have fun with family or friends, but there are a few things that can optimize your experience. We’ve put together a list of drive-in theater tips to make sure you get the most out of your film-going experience.

According to Tips for Family Trips, the key is to choose the right double-feature. If you’re unfamiliar with drive-ins, most offer two movies for the price of one – but some might not be appropriate for children. The best thing to remember is: which films are the best for everyone?

Our second tip is to get a Mitsubishi or pack lawn chairs. Most cars can get uncomfortable after a few hours, so lawn chairs can help you spread your legs and relax. If you have a Mitsubishi, odds are you have plenty of legroom and comfy seats.

Tip number three is to avoid going during a heat wave. If you’re going to sit through a few hours of family entertainment, make sure to choose your day carefully. Avoid going when it’s too hot outside, because you probably won’t want to run the A/C the entire time you’re there.

Last but not least, start your car every once in a while. Drive-ins work using radio frequencies, so most people run it with just the car battery on. Although some drive-ins will remind you, remember to start your car to charge up your battery.

It’s that time of year again, when kids are preparing for lazy summer days, and parents are desperately looking for activities to keep them busy and occupied. As it turns out, there’s plenty to keep you and your young ones busy here in Charlotte. The Tennessean points out some fun family activities in Charlotte, N.C.  – both indoors and out.

U.S. National Whitewater Center

For those seeking some adventure, the U.S. National Whitewater Center offers something for everyone. The 500-acre center is located along the Catawba River which includes both woods and water courses. While the center offers some of “the most aggressive lines our whitewater has to offer,” we recommend that families stick with the Family Rafting course, which allows children eight and older to participate.

If you want to skip the water, the center also offers a rock climbing wall, hike and bike trails, and a canopy tour (which includes airborne walkways, tightropes, and a zip line at the end).

Great Wolf Lodge

The Tennessean describes Great Wolf Lodge as a “hunting lodge that’s morphed into something part hotel, part Disneyland,” and once you see the place, you’ll understand.  The lobby features a fake log cabin surrounded by pine trees, while a massive indoor-outdoor waterpark welcome eager kids. Every night animatronic woodland creatures put on musical performances for groups of children.

Located in Concord, it’s an ideal place to stay when you plan your visit to the nearby U.S. National Whitewater Center.

Mac’s Speed Shop

Round out your getaway (or staycation, if you live in the area), with a meal at Mac’s Speed Shop. Dubbed the best barbeque in the area, Mac’s has earned a number of awards and has been featured in the Washington Post and on the Travel Channel.
