The Future of Mitsubishi is Called “Engelberg” | Charlotte, NC

2019 Mitsubishi Outlander - Charlotte, NC

Mitsubishi introduced the world’s first plug-in hybrid SUV with the Outlander PHEV, and now they’re pushing hybrid electric vehicle design to the next level with the Mitsubishi Engelberg. This March at the Geneva Auto Show, Mitsubishi unveiled its latest concept vehicle, the Engelberg Tourer. The concept vehicle is a plug-in hybrid SUV, celebrating the automaker’s twin-motor PHEV system.

Like the Outlander PHEV, the Engelberg Tourer incorporates a 2.4-liter gasoline engine and two electric motors — one mounted on each the front and rear axles. With such a configuration, the vehicle’s torque is split between the front and rear, providing intuitive and dynamic all-wheel drive. The Engelberg Tourer takes this smart system a step further: when a destination is inputted into the vehicle’s navigation system, the vehicle automatically uses weather, traffic, and road information to determine how it employs torque and battery power. While offering advanced, all-wheel drive performance, the Engelberg also offers impressive efficiency, delivering an all-electric driving range of 43.5 miles and total driving range of 435 miles with a fully-charged battery and full tank of gas.

Design-wise, the Engelberg Tourer definitely looks futuristic. The vehicle features a large black grille, distinctive and bold running lights, and dramatic contouring. Since the vehicle is named after a Swiss ski town, it also features a concealed roof carrier for snowboards.

Mitsubishi Mirage G4 Wins Best Value in America Award | Charlotte, NC

Mitsubishi Mirage | Charlotte, NC

The Mitsubishi Mirage G4 recently earned recognition for its incredible value. As recognized by the  Vincentric Best Value in America Award, the Mirage G4 has a wide range of features at an incredibly affordable price. The Mirage G4 also took home the gold for the subcompact category. Vincentric, a cost and consumer insight company, gives out these special awards just once a year to top vehicles on the market.

According to Mitsubishi, Vincentric awards vehicles based on statistical analysis and pricing models to determine which models truly provide the best value. The Mirage G4 is also the most efficient gas-powered non-hybrid vehicle on the market thanks to its fuel-sipping 1.3-liter engine — and the budget-friendly starting price doesn’t mean you have to sacrifice features like Bluetooth, a touchscreen display, and smartphone connectivity.

“The popular Mitsubishi Mirage G4 sedan is an efficient and value-oriented offering that has an important place in our North American lineup,” said Fred Diaz, President and CEO of MMNA. “This award recognition by Vincentric further illustrates the strong value play that Mirage G4 offers to consumers.”

In addition to impressive features, the Mirage G4 also has among the most comprehensive warranties on the market, which means you can really save in the long run. These include a transferable 5-year/60,000-mile new vehicle limited warranty, 10-year/100,000-mile powertrain limited warranty, 7-year/100,000-mile anti-corrosion perforation limited warranty, and five years of roadside assistance.

Mitsubishi’s SUV Lineup Is Going Through A Growth Spurt

Mitsubishi’s SUV Lineup Is Going Through a Growth Spurt | Charlotte, NC

It’s no surprise that Mitsubishi Motors is placing its focus on SUVs and crossovers. The brand has found a lot of success with its affordable, well-equipped models, including the latest Eclipse Cross, which sold over 80,000 units globally just within its first year. Now, it seems Mitsubishi’s SUV lineup is growing once again.

At the Geneva International Motor Show in March, Mitsubishi has plans to unveil its latest SUV design. It has released a teaser image of the new model, which it has dubbed the Engelberg Tourer, after the famous Swiss winter resort. The image is a dark picture of the front end that highlights some bold LED light designs next to the grille and on the roof.

One thing that will help make this new model stand out from the crowd is its electric powertrain. In 2017, Mitsubishi showed off an electric concept called the e-Evolution Concept. It’s possiblethat  this design could be a hint of what we could see from the Engelberg Tourer.

The e-Evolution was powered using three advanced electric motors and a high-capacity battery system. It also came with all-wheel drive, active yaw control, and torque vectoring. Perhaps we will see these features in Mitsubishi’s new model.

The Engleberg Tourer isn’t available yet, but you can check out the rest of Mitsubishi’s SUVs at Larry Jay Mitsubishi.

Mitsubishi Celebrates Successful Sales in 2018 | Larry Jay Mitsubishi | Charlotte, NC

The close of the 2019 calendar year marked a time for celebration for Mitsubishi: after six straight years of reputable profits in the United States, 2018 proved to be Mitsubishi’s best sales year for the past 11 years. Mitsubishi sold a remarkable 118,000 vehicles in the states during 2018, which is an impressive 15-percent increase from 2017.

Segment-Leading Crossovers

Mitsubishi’s remarkable line of crossovers helped the automaker achieve such sales success. The Outlander improved on its 2017 sales by over six percent, while its smaller sibling — the Outlander Sport — had its best sales year ever, posting an 18-percent increase. The smart and efficient Outlander PHEV also put up great numbers, selling 4,166 units for the year, and the all-new Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross more than doubled that number, selling 9,485 units for the year.

City-Savvy and Efficient Mirage Soars

The Mitsubishi Mirage pleased those looking for a fuel-efficient ride in 2018, so much so that the Automotive Science Group named the car Best Economic Performance Car and gave it the Best 5-All-Around Performance award. Together, the Mitsubishi Mirage and Mirage G4 reached 1,748 sales, which is a 70.9-percent increase from 2017.

Get Ready for 2019

Mitsubishi is poised to increase sales even further in 2019. Old-School Cool: Check Out These Classic Mitsubishi Commercials

Classic Mitsubishi Commercials | Larry Jay Mitsubishi| Charlotte, NC

Are you ready for your daily dose of 90s throwback? The News Wheel recently dipped into the Mitsubishi vault of old ads and resurrected these classic Mitsubishi commercials from the 1990s. Be ready for a nostalgic drive down memory lane in your 1995 Mitsubishi Eclipse.

  • This 1990 Eclipse GS commercial is the oldest on the watch list today. Funnily enough, the ad foreshadows the 2017 eclipse that we celebrated in August of last year. But back in 1990, it was nearly 30 years away. Watch the clip here.
  • The 1992 Eclipse ad features a 1991 Mitsubishi 3000 GT alongside the 1992 Eclipse and “Dueling Banjos.” Watch the clip here.
  • The 1995 Eclipse commercial gets a little weird when it pokes fun at an old man and his broken down truck, passed unhelpfully by a wicked fast 1995 Eclipse Cross with 210 horsepower. Watch the clip here.
  • The 1999 Eclipse ad is the first of this series, not star the same narrator. Instead, we are made to read the words, “You still have your youth. Get our and misspend some of it,” which seems to imply we should do that in the 1999 Eclipse. Watch the clip here.

As great as the 90s were, however, the current decade definitely has its own exciting advantages — like the new 2019 lineup of Mitsubishi models. Take one for a test drive when you visit us at Larry Jay Mitsubishi.
