Mitsubishi revealed another early concept for their upcoming Outlander Sport model – called the XR-PHEV II – at the Geneva Auto Show. This concept is the updated version of the XR-PHEV that debuted at the 2013 Tokyo Motor Show.
The XR-PHEV II concept looks pretty much the same as its predecessor cosmetically, with the exception of some modern grille styling. It’s safe to assume that whenever the new Outlander Sport gets it debut, it’s going to follow the current aesthetic trends with a bit of an edge.
Under the hood, the XR-PHEV II has both an electric motor and a gas engine, getting most of its fuel from the electric motor, according to Mitsubishi. However, the auto company didn’t release the specs on XR-PHEV II’s powertrain.
Details on the future of the Outlander Sport are sparse, but Mitsubishi UK managing director Lance Bradley has said that the company wants a catalog made of about 20 percent electric models by 2020.
The Mitsubishi XR-PHEV II concept is definitely a step in that direction. We are very excited for this at Larry Jay Mitsubishi.
