2018 Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV Wins Title of “Best Green Winter Vehicle”

Best Green Winter Vehicle

Mitsubishi hit the jackpot with the Outlander PHEV. The award-winning Mitsubishi Outlander already made waves in the SUV segment after its 2016 redesign, and the 2018 Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV was highly anticipated in the U.S. as the first-ever hybrid SUV at its price point. Now, it’s getting attention with a new accolade, as the New England Motor Press Association’s “Best Green Winter Vehicle.”

Winters aren’t as tough here in North Carolina as they are up in New England, but having a member of the hybrid segment that can handle hazardous weather and slippery road conditions always comes in handy. Features like traction control and all-wheel drive proved themselves capable when tested on New England roads in the wintertime. Plus, with add-ons like heated seats and side mirrors in addition to active driver assist features, as well as de-icers for the front and rear windshields, the Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV helps take the headache out of navigating slick roads.

The fact that the 2018 Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV provides hybrid fuel economy in addition to all of its SUV capabilities is what made it the clear winner of the “Best Green Winter Vehicle” award. Even though it’s summertime here in Charlotte, it never hurts to prepare yourself for winter driving later this year.

While most of us want to drive fuel-efficient cars, they often come with a big price premium, especially fuel-efficient crossovers. That isn’t the case with the 2018 Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV.

The Outlander PHEV is an affordable plug-in hybrid that costs a lot less than its luxury hybrid counterparts, even before any tax incentives are considered. Even with its low cost, the Outlander PHEV comes well-equipped with features including leather seating, Apple CarPlay™ and Android Auto™ compatibility, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, Bluetooth® connectivity, and heated front seats.

It is powered by a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine and a pair of 60-kilowatt electric motors. Combined, the hybrid powertrain has an output of 197 horsepower. When fully charged, Mitsubishi says the Outlander PHEV has an electric driving range of 22 miles. Recharging can be done in a variety of ways, but when using DC fast-charging, you can get up to an 80% charge in less than half an hour.

The Outlander PHEV also comes standard with Super All-Wheel Control for superior handling in all road conditions. Inside, the cabin offers seating for five passengers with plenty of room for cargo in the rear.
