Winterizing Your Vehicle is Easy with These Simple Tips
Whether you love the cold or already miss the long, hot summer days, the coldest months of the year are just around the corner. That means it’s time to get your car ready for winter. Not sure where to start? Check out these simple tips for preparing your vehicle to weather this season.
Test the battery
Cooler temperatures put additional strain on your car’s battery, so it’s important to test your vehicle’s battery before the weather shifts. We recommend having a trained technician at a dealership test the battery.
Replace wiper blades
Between inclement weather and road salt, your car’s wiper blades can really take a beating during the winter months. If your car’s windshield wiper blades are cracked, bent, or just not working as well as they used to, it’s best to change them now before they pose a safety hazard.
Monitor the tires
Tires are extremely important when it comes to overall car safety, and this is especially true in winter. Make a habit of keeping an eye on tire pressure, alignment and tread this season. You might also consider investing in a dedicated set of winter tires for even more traction on slippery roads.
Stow an emergency kit
Finally, it is important to keep a few emergency items in your vehicle over the winter. Before the weather turns chilly, pack an emergency kit and keep it in your vehicle. Include items like warm clothes, nonperishable food, water bottles, and a battery-powered smartphone charger. Hopefully, you’ll never have to use this kit, but if an emergency happens, it could be a lifesaver.
