Packing a Winter Survival Kit for Your Car
North Carolina isn’t known for its winter weather, but if you’re headed north or into the mountains any time this winter, you need to be prepared.
Here are some great items you should pack in a winter survival kit for your car.
- If you get stranded on the side of the road, you’ll want to stay warm. Bring extra gloves, hats, and blankets. Wool blankets are recommended since they repel water keep you warm even if you get wet.
- You don’t want to be hungry or thirsty, so bring water and snacks, like nuts, dried fruit, and granola to keep your energy up and your stomach full.
- In case you’re stuck in a snow drift, winter boots, a small shovel and cat litter, sand, or salt will help get you free. Dig away the snow from around your tires and sprinkle some sand in front of them for extra traction
- Items you should keep in your car year round include jumper cables, a first aid kit, and a flashlight.
